US Dollar Finally Bottoming? [0.08]

So it would appear. But I’d continue to question for how long, because the market projected a Trump ‘reflation’ (which would of course feature a weakened USD) based on fiscal policy, which has been tardy at best and a non-starter at worst.

Prologue: This is a bearish article written by someone who covered his short (bearish) positions today (except for the euro) and has only long positions now, in precious metals and stocks, along with a heaping helping of cash. It’s an impressive batting average and it is fact, not bias or bearish wishful thinking.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the stock market is entering a dangerous window whether or not this is the start of a real correction under pains of TiC & LiC. The fuse on Fred’s bomb has been lit for at least a year now ,but whoever promotes it will in all likelihood forget to mention that part.

The ratio of Junk to long-term Treasury bonds is an indicator of the will to speculate in financial markets.

Regardless, Junk/Treasury ratios have been negatively diverging the stock market ever since Trump was elected president.

On January 12 we did an NFTRH+ (daily, weekly & monthly) chart highlight on LIT, with an initial target of 33. Upon researching the fund and seeing things like Tesla in its holdings I went for a purer play and traded SQM successfully a few times (currently no position, although I am long a small partner of SQM’s due to its chart, as reviewed in NFTRH 459).

Since I am hanging out there with a view on USD that goes against all current trends (up in the anti-USD trade and down in Uncle Buck), may as well micro-manage it until resolved.

A longer monthly view shows that it has tested the ’04 and ’05 highs and remains on a big picture breakout from a long-term base.

A few years ago you’re trying to get her to address her softball fundamentals, then you’re wondering why she hates high school so much (actually I am not, I absolutely hated it too), then last year you’re wondering why she is quitting opera vocal in favor of composition, and this year you’re spending last Saturday night at a studio in Boston watching a first-time composer manage a string quartet with no pre-rehearsal of the material and the clock ticking ($$$… ). It was a great experience for her working through being intimidated by older musicians and trying to get her points across to them as the composer.

Dusting Up on the Miners [0.00]

That is because it is guarding the miners I hold; the ones I have chosen not to get rid of despite a short-term bearish technical view on the sector (pending the bounce, which may be ending this week) and the bottom/bounce view I’ve been nursing on the USD. I don’t want to pretend to be a know-it-all wiseguy; the last couple of weeks have been somewhat annoying to me emotionally and not at all profitable (in fact, I’ve had a slight draw down) as various sectors drain momentum and/or diverge (I’ve adjusted to the best of my abilities).
