NEW DELHI: Shares of IL&FS Transportation Networks surged over 5 per cent in Monday's trade after reports that the company emerged as the lowest bidder for the project to build the Zojila tunnel that will provide all-year connectivity between Srinagar and Leh.Following the development, the stock gained 5.59 per cent to Rs 94.50 on BSE. It opened at Rs 93.75 and touched an intraday high and low of Rs 97.30 and Rs 93.75 respectively, in the first hour of trade.ET reported that the tunnel, to be built at an altitude of 3,528 metres, will provide an alternative to the national highway that connects Srinagar and Leh but remains shut for close to six months due to snow.IL&FS’ bid of Rs 4,849 crore stunned industry executives as it is lower than the reserve price of Rs 5,630 set by the government.The other bidders for the tunnel project are Larsen & Toubro (up 3.61 per cent), Reliance Infrastructure (up 0.63 per cent) and Jaiprakash Ventures (1.47 per cent).Promoters held 73.22 per cent stake in the company as of June 2017.The scrip touched its fresh 52-week high of Rs 124.80 on January 12,2017 and its 52-week low of Rs 65.85 on August 19, 2016.
